Hollis Academy

Hollis Academy is a vibrant secondary special school located in Middlesbrough and is for students aged 11-16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Difficulties (SEMHD). Each of our 85 students has an Educational and Health Care Plan (EHCP), formerly known as a Statement of Special Educational Needs (Behaviour).

For the majority of our students, their education prior to joining us has been disrupted and because of this, the school relentlessly strives to remove barriers to learning, close attainment gaps and provide an inclusive environment that is child centred and learning focussed. Our aim is to ensure the academic, personal and social development of all of our students so that they can develop their potential both in school and in the wider community. We understand that our students have individual talents and in order to ensure success for every child, we believe that education goes beyond the core curriculum and out of the confines of the classroom and consequently we have adapted our curriculum offer to ensure students are prepared for the next stage of their life, whether that be within education or in the workplace. We operate a broad and balanced curriculum, including many GCSE and vocational qualifications, which students work towards achieving at the end of Key Stage 4.
